Elisabeth Hubmann

Profile

Elizabeth Hubmann, born in 1994 at Hall in Tyrol, studied organ in Innsbruck, Amsterdam and Geneva as well piano, musicology and ancient sciences. After several years as organist at Obrechkerk in Amsterdam, where she performed many contemporary musical works for organ and choir, she now lives in Geneva where she works as an organist in parallel with her studies in ethnomusicology.

Besides performing as soloist in artistic engagements in the experimental sphere, she concertizes on the piano, organ or harmonium with different chamber music ensembles.

She organizes concerts that will help the public perceive music in new ways. In this pursuit, she hopes to build bridges between different disciplines such as, cultural and artistic areas, as well as scientific and discursive contexts, particularly in the field of contemporary music. At present, she uses the organ as a medium to obtain those objectives.

In 2021/2022,  Elizabeth organized an organ composition contest with the help of her association KLangen Arten. At the same time, she worked with other composers (male and female) to create new organ pieces. As musicologist, she is currently exploring the points of intersection between anthropology and cultural heritage, listening practices, instrument making, and the interplay between actually “experienced” and "practice -oriented" research. (See the article « Zeitgeist ! Kontemporäre Orgelklänge und ihre Stimmen » in Neue Zeitschrift für Musik 04/2021).

A nature lover and environmentalist, she studies how different cultures interact with their environment. She actively participates in environmental campaigns and is an advocate for sustainable musical instruments.
