Marcelo Giannini

Profile

Marcelo Giannini began his organ and harpsichord studies in his native country, Brazil.

He then studied with Karl Richter in Munich before completing his musical formation at the Geneva University of Music with a First Prize for Virtuosity in Lionel Rogg’s organ and improvisation classes.

Professional Activities:

Marcelo gives recitals in several European countries, in Brazil, the USA and in Malaysia.

He collaborates as organist and harpsichordist with different groups: the Suisse Romande Orchestra, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Lisbon Gulbenkian Orchestra and especially with the Lausanne Vocal Ensemble and the Lisbon Gulbenkian Choir, both conducted by Michel Corboz, whom he accompanies on numerous tours throughout Europe, Japan and the USA.

For many years he conducted the Faller Choir in La Chaux-de-Fonds, performing major sacred works.

More recently, he performed Poulenc's Concerto for Organ and Orchestra with the Bern Symphony Orchestra and the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has recorded various organ CDs in Switzerland and Brazil (works by Bach, Franck, Reger and Alain).  He has also participated in several recordings made with the Lausanne Vocal Ensemble and the Suisse Romande Orchestra.

He teaches basso continuo and improvisation at the Geneva University of Music in the Department of Ancient Music.

Marcelo is titular organist at the Temple in Carouge, Switzerland.
