Adrien Pièce

Profile

Adrien Pièce, born in 1988, began his musical studies on the piano before taking an interest in the organ and harpsichord and studying with Pierre-Alain Clerc and Jovanka Marville at the Lausanne Conservatory. He continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel) where he obtained a Master's degree in early keyboard performance with honors in the classes of Andrea Marcon, Rudolf Lutz (improvisation), Lorenzo Ghielmi and Jörg-Andreas Bötticher. He then perfected his skills in numerous masterclasses with Jan Willem Jansen, Wolfgang Zerer and Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Michel Bignens, as well as with Kenneth Weiss at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève.

Between 2010 and 2013, he distinguished himself in several international competitions: Concorso Internazionale di clavicembalo, Pesaro (1st prize), Paul Hofhaimer Orgelwettbewerb Innsbruck (3rd prize), Concorso Organistico internazionale di Fano Adriano (2nd prize).

Since 2010 he has given regular concerts throughout Europe on harpsichord, organ and sometimes fortepiano, both as a soloist and with various baroque ensembles (from duos to large ensembles under the direction of Ton Koopman, Francesco Pedrini, Andoni Sierra). He has also participated in various radio recordings (ORF1, DRS 2) and discographic productions, first solo CD in 2018 at the claviorganum around John Bull and his contemporaries, as well as contributions to ensemble projects at Claves and Calliope. In 2016, he performed J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations as part of the Resonanzen festival at the Wiener Konzerthaus.

His ongoing interest in the art of improvisation and basso continuo in various early styles has led him to undertake research for the DocArtes doctoral program (University of Leyden) on keyboard improvisation in Frescobaldi's entourage.

He currently divides his time between concerts, teaching, and the activity of titular organist of the temple of Chavannes (Lausanne) where he is co-founder of the Saison Musicale Chavannoise.
