François Delor

Profile

François Delor was born in Geneva. He came from a musical family, his mother was a pianist, his father, a violinist and his sister a celebrated singer. He himself followed a musical career as well, doing the majority of his studies, general and musical in his native city of Geneva. He studied organ at the Conservatory with Pierre Segond where in 1967 he was awarded First Prize in Organ Virtuosity after having obtained his Certificates in Solfège, Harmony, Counterpoint and Organ.

Concurrently he studied in Paris with Marie Claire Alain and in 1968 he won the First Prize in the François Couperin International Organ Competition.

In 1966 at a very young age, he was appointed Titular organist at the “Temple de la Fusterie”.  The magnificent organ there, built by Pascal Quoirin, was restored in 1979. Since then François Delor has organized a concert series in the Temple entitled, “Heures d’orgue”. In 1993 he became organist at St. Peter’s Cathedral and in Victoria Hall, both in Geneva.

Mr. Delor has concertized all over Europe since the age of twenty and at the same time continued his important position as a Professor of Harmony, Improvisation and Organ in Geneva at the Institute Jacques Dalcroze and the Geneva Conservatory of Music. He is also a composer. His compositions include works for Voice, Piano and Organ.

François Delor was selected to be the technical advisor in the search for a new organ for the Auditoire Calvin. He followed this project from its inception until its completion in 2014.  He gave the inaugural concert on this Aubertin organ.
